I blew one of the three most important honkyoku called “Mukaidi” at the Akasaka Civic Hall in Tokyo.
“Mukaidi” is a honkyoku that makes you feel like you are liberated from this world and drifting through a sea of deep fog heading towards the other side of enlightenment.
The world view that can be felt throughout honkyoku, which was once played by Komuso. It is a prayer for the repose of the souls of those who died on the road to the end of life, of the impermanence of life, of rise and fall, and of hunger and war.
I may be blowing the shakuhachi in mourning for myself living in this world, or for my own unfulfilled dreams.
