「本手之調」は、遠州浜松にあった霊鐸山普大寺（れいたくざん ふだいじ）という虚無僧寺で伝承されたと伝えられている。作られた年代も作者も不詳のこの曲は、虚無僧が吹いていた本曲のエッセンスの総てを含み込んでいると云われる重要な曲である。
“Hontenoshirabe” is said to have been handed down at the Komuso Temple called Reitakuzan Fudaiji, located in Hamamatsu,Shizuoka Prefecture. The composer and the date of its creation are unknown, but this piece is said to contain all of the essence of the honkyoku played by the Komuso monks, amd is extremely important.
